Al H. Grubb, Jr., 71, died November 29, 2025 at Mount Carmel Hospital, surrounded by his family, after a courageous battle against cancer that lasted nearly two years. He was born in Bismarck, North Dakota on Aug 4, 1954, the third child of Al and Shirley Grubb. He moved with his family to Columbus, Ohio and then to Browns Valley, MN.
He joined the U.S. Army in 1973. He met the love of his life, Marion Maeding and they were married in 1977 in Colorado, where Al was stationed. Al was also a member of the American Legion Post 417. After his military service, Al was a union millwright. This career took Al and Marion to various places, including Alaska, North Dakota, Minnesota, Oklahoma, and Ohio. Al was a jack of all trades. He was always willing to help others with their projects. He had two daughters, Jessica and Nicole, who were the apple of his eye.
Al lit up any room when he walked in. He wasn’t just the life of the party, he was the party. He loved to be around people and would make friends with anyone that was around. He was caring and affectionate and greeted everyone with a hug and a kiss. He enjoyed time outdoors, enjoying the backyard pool and bonfire. Al was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed many hunting and fishing trips with his sons-in-laws, grandsons, brothers, nephews and his close friend Norm Pitts. He had a special bond with Norm, who was always there to support him and Marion when they needed it over the many years of their long friendship.
Al is survived by Marion, his wife of 48 years; his daughters Jessica (Johnny) Cahill and Nicole (Aaron) Akers; four grandsons Carson and Cameron Cahill, Ashton and Brendon Deere; his sisters Gayle (Phil) Jarman and Kris (Joe) Morrissette; his brother Corey Grubb; his half-brother, Richard Schundelmier; his mother-in-law, Gisela Maeding; his sister-in-law Bonnie Grubb; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Al and Shirley Grubb; and his brothers Steve and Andre Grubb.
