Barbara Ann McMurray

Barbara A. McMurray, age 84, of Mt. Sterling, Ohio, passed away Friday, October 24, 2025 at the hospital. Born in Columbus to the late David and Thelma Decker, she was a graduate of Darby High School, Class of 1959. After high school, Barb attended the Ohio State School of Cosmetology. She was a hairdresser for many years working in Grandview and more recently in Mt. Sterling.  After she married the love of her life, Kenneth McMurray, she helped Ken run the dairy farm.  While her daughters were in high school, Barb was one of the “Band Moms.” She was active in the PTO, different booster clubs, and was a 4H Club Advisor for many years.

In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 49 years, Kenneth, her brother Gus Decker, son-in-law Roger Sparks, great-grandson Hunter Prushing, sister-in-law Gloria Decker, and niece Hope Decker. She is survived by her brother David Decker, daughters Kelly Sparks and Saundra McMurray-Neff (Craig Neff), grandchildren: Elizabeth (Matt Haner) McMurray, Heather (Travis) Burgett, and Kenneth (Leslie) McMurray, her great-grandchildren: William, Riley, Jason, Lillian, Lane, Abby, Meredith, and MaryAnn, her loving cousins, and many friends.

Family will receive friends from 5:00p.m.-8:00p.m. WEDNESDAY at the PORTER-TIDD FUNERAL HOME, 331 West Main Street, Mt. Sterling, OH 43143 (740)-869-2777 where her Funeral Service will be held 11:00a.m. THURSDAY, OCTOBER 30, 2025. Barbara will be laid to rest beside her husband Kenneth at Bethel Cemetery, Mt. Sterling.
