Diane Self

June 13, 1959 — September 16, 2025

Diane Kay Self, age 66, of London, Ohio passed away peacefully on September 16, 2025 surrounded by her loving family. Born on June 13, 1959 to Floanne and the late Brad Wilson, Diane was a beacon of faith and kindness throughout her life. Diane was a devoted mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, niece, cousin, friend, and teacher. Diane graduated with Bachelor's and Master's Degrees from The Ohio State University. She retired from Madison Plains Local Schools where she taught Language Arts, Reading, and Gifted Education for thirty years. After her retirement, she served as a tutor at St. Patrick's School in London, Ohio. Diane solicited donations and with her dear friend of nearly 50 years Shannon Hall created dozens of auction baskets for the school's annual fundraiser generating revenue to support educational opportunities. Diane's compassion, dedication, and unwavering commitment to improving children's lives will be her enduring legacy. In addition, she served as a Madison County 4-H Advisor, member of the First United Methodist Church of Mt. Sterling serving as church treasurer and spending countless hours creating homemade cards for community members experiencing challenges. In 2021, Diane was presented with the Rotary International "Service Above Self Award” which recognizes volunteers who demonstrate exemplary humanitarian service by utilizing their time and talents to help others. Her life is a testament to meaningful acts of love, service, and comfort to others. Of all the titles and roles Diane held, her favorite was "Nana." Diane is survived and will be deeply missed by her mother Floanne Wilson; Daughters Julie Self and Joelle (Kyle) Hipp; and her three grandchildren; Annistyn, Rylee, and Liam Hipp. Siblings and their families; Bill (Terri) Wilson, Mike Wilson and Susan Thompson, and Cathy (Kip) Witchey; Her nieces Amber (Sean) Thompson, Alexis (Seth) Deaver, and Morgan Witchey and nephews Troy (Rachelle) Wilson, Derek (Lindsey) Wilson, Bradley (Shawn) Wilson, Luke and Joel Witchey. In addition, she will be affectionately remembered by her sister-in law Lynette Wilson, travel partner Janet Porter, great nieces and nephews, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, teaching colleagues, former students, and all whose lives she touched. Diane hosted many family gatherings for holidays, birthdays, weddings, showers, reunions, graduations, and other occasions at which her chicken salad was always a favorite. Diane's children and grandchildren will always remember her for her uncanny ability to find exactly what they needed, often before they knew they needed it themselves. Her love language was gift-giving, and her shopping expeditions were always missions of love. The family wishes to thank the many friends and neighbors who have been steadfast in their care and love for Diane. Thanks to The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center Neurology Team and the Dodd Hall Rehabilitation Center who saved her life after suffering a brain aneurysm in 2001. Her perseverance enabled her to live on to watch her daughters bloom into strong women who positively impact the lives of others everyday. Diane's spirit lives on through her daughters who continue her legacy of love, generosity, and Buckeye pride. Since Diane's cancer diagnosis, The Ohio State University James Cancer Center and the staff at the Stephanie Spielman Center have been relentless warriors in her courageous cancer journey. A private family graveside service will be held. Although Diane loved flowers, in her memory she would have preferred that donations be made to First United Methodist Church, 110 S London St, Mt Sterling, OH 43143, so that others may benefit.
