Herman “Max” Havens passed away Saturday, Nov. 26th, 2011. He was born August 4, 1938 in Stanton, Ohio to Carl and Mary Parkison Havens. Max loved life, his family, and friends. He especially loved helping his son on the farm. Max will be remembered for his good nature and generosity. He never knew a stranger.
Max is survived by his wife of 52 years, Beverly Yerian Havens, his son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Sue Havens; grandchildren, Jennifer (Sam) Petee, Jason (Ramona) Sheehy, and Beth Ann Havens; great-grandchildren, Jacob and Alyson Petee all of Mt. Sterling. Also, Anthony Simon was considered to be one of the grandkids to Max. Three sisters also survive Max, Phyllis (Everett) Driscoll, Latrisha Lankford, and Sally (Terry) Newsome; brother-in-law Carl (Mary Alice) Yerian of Columbus, Ohio. A host of special cousins, nieces and nephews will also mourn the loss of Max.
Max was preceded in death by his parents and an infant son.
Max served in the Army Reserves from 1957 – 1963, proud to serve his country. As a young man, Max worked on a dairy farm. He was the manager of Flolizer Fertilize plant in Derby for many years and worked in the fertilize business most of his life. Upon retirement, he took great pride in helping his son on his family farm.
Max was special to his family. He was always on the farm with his son, helping wherever it was needed. He took such joy in his grandkids and loved a good family gathering.
Calling hours will be held from 5 – 8 pm, Tuesday, Nov. 29th at the PORTER-TIDD FUNERAL HOME, 331 West Main St., Mt. Sterling, Ohio. A celebrate of Max’s life will be held at 8 pm at the close of calling hours. Rev. Dortha Ross will be officiating. At Max’s request, a PRIVATE graveside service will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 30th at 10:30 am. Max will be laid to rest on the family plot at Range Township Cemetery in Sedalia.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to the American Heart Association, Madison Plains FFA Chapter, or a charity of your choice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
