John Richard Hunt, III

September 23, 1955 — July 2, 2023

Mt. Sterling, Ohio

John Richard Hunt, III, age 67, of Mount Sterling, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly in his home on July 2, 2023. John was born September 23, 1955 in Circleville, Ohio, the son of the late Frances Louise (Palmer) and John Richard Hunt, II. John graduated from Westfall High School then went on to serve the country that he loved by joining the United States Army. He was honorably discharged. Later in life, John attended college and served as a Registered Nurse at THE Ohio State University Hospital.  He was passionate about helping people and filled his RN role doing just that.  Even as a retiree he was still the family nurse, doing everything he could to give the best advice and care that only he could give.

John had many passions in his life.  His daughter Carissa being #1, followed by his family, his guitars, his motorcycle, a good tequila and traveling.  The highlight of his life was being reunited with his daughter and every time he talked about her his light would shine so brightly.  She made the emptiness in his heart fill with a love that he had missed, and she truly completed this man.

John was an amazing guitarist and singer.  He loved to play for anyone who would listen.  He was self-taught and had such an ear for music.  He could listen to a song and learn it by sound.   He had recently made a lot of new friends at the Hammertime in Mount Sterling, where he was dubbed the nickname “Guitar John”.   Playing and singing for them made his night!

He loved to spend time with his best friend Trent, traveling to Thailand, and had a dream of living there and playing his guitar, enjoying the scenery and meeting new people.  That dream was almost a reality until his time on this earth was called.  His memory will live on in Trent. His cremains will get to be spread everywhere they had traveled, as well as next to his brother Ed on a beautiful hill in Thailand.

John was a member of the Masonic Order and also a member of the American Legion Post #417, Mt. Sterling.

John didn’t know a stranger.  To know John was to love him.  Everyone was his friend, and he always had a smile and a wave to those that crossed his path.  He will be missed so much, and his absence has left such a hole in the hearts of us that love him dearly.  He had a special place in his heart for his great-great nephew Aiden “AJ" who spent a lot of time with him at his home.  He taught him how to be ornery, martial arts, and how to just “pick” on someone.

Remaining to cherish John's memory is his daughter, Carissa Clarkson; Sister, Marilyn Russell; Sister-in-law, Melissa Hunt; nieces, Christine (Brady) Sines, Tammy Myers, Kirstyn Hunt; Nephews, Seth and Brandon Hunt; Best friend Trent Stonerock; lots of extended family, Great Nephews and Nieces, cousins and friends.

Preceding John in death were his parents, Frances and John Hunt; brother, Edward Hunt; and niece Crystal Thomas.
