Joseph W. Cartmille, Sr., 82, passed away on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at St. Catherine’s Manor in Washington Court House, Ohio.

Joe was born on October 27, 1942, at White Cross Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, to the late Rachel Sellman Cartmille and the late Frank Warner Cartmille.

Joe proudly attended Fairfield School in Fairfield Township and graduated with the Class of 1960 from the Plains High School in Mt. Sterling, Ohio. He always stayed true to his allegiance to Fairfield School even after the school merged with Mt. Sterling High School to form The Plains. He served our country in the United States Air Force with assignments to: Lackland Air Force Base - San Antonio, Texas / Lowry Air Field - Denver, Colorado / RAF Bentwaters - Woodbridge United Kingdom / Campion Field - Galena, Alaska, and Wright Patterson Air Force Base - Fairborn, Ohio. After his military service, Joe went on to work for: Ardery’s of London, Versa Corporation, Whiteside Motor Sales, Bob Drummond Land Clearing, Lenox Industries, Georgia Pacific, and JB Hunt. He was a lifelong mechanic, working on many projects for lots of friends and families over the years. In addition, he served 1 term as the Mayor of the Village of Mt. Sterling, Ohio. He was a General Motors man through and through with a passion for restoring antique tractors, especially Farmalls. He loved participating in Antique Tractor Pulls and Mt. Sterling Parades with his fully restored Farmall 450.

Joe was preceded in death by both parents, a brother - Pearl Alfred Cartmille, and various aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years Suzanne W. Cartmille, son - Joseph Warner Cartmille, Jr., stepdaughter - Connie (Ron) Strebe, grandsons - Jonathon Rupert and Noah Robert Strebe, sister - Sally Harper, sister in law - Carole (Jim) Stewart, nephew - Brady (Heather) Stewart, special cousins - Dennis Cartmille, Denise (Bob) Costilow, Bonnie (Charles) Stump, Lucy Harmon, dear friend Bill Warner, and a host of relatives, neighbors, and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held on THURSDAY, AUGUST 14, 2025 at 11:30a.m. at the Porter Tidd Funeral Home, 331 East Main Street, Mt. Sterling, Ohio 43143. The family will welcome friends beginning at 10:00a.m. THURSDAY until the time of the service at the Funeral Home. Interment will follow the ceremony with a procession to Pleasant Cemetery with United States Air Force Honors.
