Joseph William Deck January 31, 1949 – August 22, 2025

Joseph William Deck, 76, of Waverly Ohio, passed away peacefully athome on August 22, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on January 31st, 1949, in Columbus, he was the son of Forrest “Tad” and Virginia (Reed) Deck. Joe graduated with honors from Madison South High School in 1967 and earned his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from The Ohio State University in 1974. His professional career was marked by dedication, innovation, and a deep commitment to excellence. Joe spent 25 years at the Piketon Uranium Enrichment Facility as a technical support engineer in the electronic maintenance department. He then joined Columbus Instruments R&D Corporation, where over 8 years he played a central role in developing patented pre-clinical laboratory research equipment. He concluded his career as an electrical engineering consultant at Innovative Solutions, continuing to share his expertise and talents for problem-solving.

He will be remembered not only for his technical brilliance and adventurous spirit but also for his kindness, humor, and the joy he brought to those around him.

He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church of Waverly where he was in the Praise Band and previously served on the Pastor Parish Committee. He was also a member of the Kahuna Court Band, a former member of Waverly Athletic Boosters, and coached Waverly youth and American Legion Post 142 baseball spanning over a decade.

Beyond his professional achievements, Joe was a man of many passions. He was an avid motorcycle enthusiast and competitor, a talented guitar musician, a dedicated runner, and a lifelong supporter of Ohio State athletics. His devotion to the Cleveland Guardians was unwavering, and he rarely missed a game. Joe’s eclectic interests and vibrant spirit made him a beloved figure to all who knew him.

Joe is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years Margie (Brown) Deck, his sons and daughters-in-law Tom and Courtney Deck of Westerville and Joe and Corrin Deck of Powell, grandchildren Thurston and Derek Deck, sister and brother-in-law Judy and Mike Finchum, brothers and sisters-in-law Tom and Gladys Deck and David and Barbara Deck, sister-in-law Mary Kay Brown, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his infant son, Andrew, and his parents.

The family will receive friends and family for visitation at PORTER-TIDD FUNERAL HOME, 331 W. MAIN ST., MT. STERLING, OH 43143 on Wednesday, August 27, 2025 from 12 – 1 pm followed by a memorial service at 1 pm.  Private family burial will be held at Bethel Cemetery, Mt. Sterling, Ohio.
