Leonard Henry (Sonny) Gabbart, age 79 of Orient, died Saturday evening, December 24, 2011 at Sterling Place Assisted Living in Mt. Sterling, OH. He was born July 22, 1932 in Richfield Springs, NY.
He was the son of the late Leonard & Laura (Springett) Gabbart. He married Winona (Jackie) Johnston December 25, 1950 in Parkersburg, West Virginia.
Preceded in death by his parents, Leonard & Laura; wife, Jackie, son Steve, brothers Robert and Arwin (Bud), and sister Lynette.
Sonny was Pastor of Darbyville Community Church in Darbyville, Ohio for over 40 years. He retired from the Marathon Oil Company.
He is survived by daughters Pamela (Robert) Stires of Orient, OH., Yolanda (James) Chapman of LaVergne, TN.; grandchildren Jordan, Canaan, Bethany, Abby, Izzy, Lydia, and Jayne; brother Kelsie (Evelyn) Gabbart of Mineral Wells, WV.; sisters Velma Werkmeister of Davies, FL., Sandra (Clair) Burkhart of Rockport, WV., Alice Holbert of Parkersburg, WV., Cynthia (Cecil) McElfresh of Walker, WV., and Jane (James) Ball of Waterford, OH.; sister-in-law Barbara Gabbart of Fairfield, CA.
A Funeral service will be held 11:00 am on Thursday, December 29, 2011 at the PORTER-TIDD FUNERAL HOME, Mt. Sterling. Rev. Robert Stires and Rev. Canaan Chapman officiating with the interment following in Darbyville Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Wednesday from 4 – 8 pm.
