Mary “Lou” Louise (Osborn) Hemphill, age 87 years young, passed away on January 31, 2026, after battling severe pain and several bouts with cancer. Mary Lou was born on November 3, 1938, in Grove City, Ohio.
Mary Lou spent most of her life in Ohio, residing in Harrisburg and Mt. Sterling for over 40 years. Before Covid, she was a volunteer at the Mt. Sterling Community Center for numerous years. Mary Lou was also an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Mt. Sterling. She loved to read books, put together puzzles, and playing cards with her friends.
She is preceded in death by her mother and father, Mary Elizabeth Oglesby Osborn and John Phillip Osborn, husband Walter “Ruffie” Hemphill, brothers Jack Jr., Vernon E., and Don Neal Osborn, step-daughter Connie Hemphill Petritis, and step-son Walter “Huck” Hemphill.
Mary Lou is survived by her sons, Robert N. Kanniard (Denise), and John C. Hemphill, niece Sheila Hemphill Taylor, step-daughters Jean Hemphill, and Penny Hemphill, grandchildren Stacie Kanniard Stone (Scott), Troy Kanniard (Sarah), and John “Jack” Hemphill II, numerous great-grandchildren, and step grand, and great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, and nephews.
Per her wishes, she will be cremated, and a Celebration of Life will be held on April 11, 2026, at 11:00am, at the First United Methodist Church, 110 S. London Street, Mt. Sterling, OH.
