Omar Dean Marshall, age 85 of Mt. Sterling passed away Saturday, June 7, 2014 at his home. He was born November 6, 1928 in Granger, Iowa, the son of O.T. and Maude (Shelton) Marshall.
Dean was a lifelong farmer and active in his community. He was a Range Township Trustee for 32 years, one of the founding board members for the Sterling Joint Ambulance District, and on the Madison County Regional Planning Commission.
Dean was a stranger to no one and especially enjoyed his friendships with his lunch buddies and staff at Ben and Joy’s. He helped his boys on the farm, enjoyed riding around in his golf cart, and meeting with his brothers.
Dean was preceded in death by his wife, Faith; parents; sisters Helen Bartley and Orena Haynes; daughter-in-law Betty.
He is survived by sons Dennis, Jeff (Susan); grandchildren Adam (Sarah), Carrie (Brian), Sarah (Chad); great-grandchildren Emily and Brennan; brothers Wayne and Lee Marshall, and his faithful dog Annie.
A Funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 12, 2014 at the PORTER-TIDD FUNERAL HOME, Mt. Sterling. Rev. Gordon Ell officiating with the interment following in Bethel Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 11th from 4 – 7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to Sedalia Church of Christ in Christian Union, Sterling Joint Ambulance District, or Range Township Fire Department. Envelopes will be provided at the funeral home.
