It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Pearl David Houser, age 78, of Chillicothe, Ohio, who went home to be with the Lord on September 26, 2025, surrounded by his family and his faithful dogs, Chevy and Foxy.
Pearl was born on November 3, 1946, in White Oak to Harold and Sarah Houser. He grew up in Mt. Sterling, Ohio, alongside his siblings and attended Madison Mills. From an early age, he shared his father’s love of mechanics, which sparked a lifelong career working with trucks and trailers. A hardworking and self-made man, Pearl became a true entrepreneur- owning and operating Houser & Son Trucking, Houser & Son Trucking and Trailer Repair, Traserve Inc., Harpea Corp., and Houser Parts Distribution. He also owned and operated an Exxon gas station. Later, he became an auctioneer with Stanley & Son of Chillicothe and continued to pursue many ventures throughout his life.
Pearl’s greatest passions were his music, his farm, and his animals. He loved playing guitar, caring for his land, and spending time with his neighbors along the road.
He is survived by his children: Bobbi Houser, Jackie Houser (Dean), Jamie Houser (Ashley), Michael Houser (Kendra), and Stacy Thompson (Greg); his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Sarah Houser; his brothers, “Sonny” Paul Houser and Vernon Houser; and his sister, Janet Tadlock.
Family and friends are invited to gather on October 6th at Porter Tidd Funeral Home, 331 W. Main St., Mount Sterling, Ohio, 43143. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 12:00 p.m.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Ross County Home Health, Heartland Hospice, and the Ross County Area Agency on Aging for the loving care and support given to Pearl. Special thanks also go to his dear friends, Joe McFadden and Joe Menenthal, whose daily kindness and care allowed him to spend his final days on his beloved farm, just as he wished.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that memorial donations be made to the Ross County Humane Society in Pearl's memory, honoring his lifelong love of animals and the joy they brought him. To donate, please call 740-775-6808 and let them know your gift is being made in memory of Pearl Houser, or mail a check with "Pearl Houser" noted in the memo line to 2308 Lick Run Rd #A, Chillicothe, OH 45601.
“He taught us strength, kindness, and love… and his legacy will live on in us forever.”
