Richard Vernon Houser, age 70 of Mt. Sterling, died Monday evening, April 9, 2012 in OSU Medical Center, Columbus. He was born March 28, 1942 in Fayette County, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Sarah Jane (Webb) Houser and sister Janet (Houser) Tadlock.
He is survived by his loving wife of 45 ½ years, Linda Houser; daughter & son-in-law, Kellie and Rex Bibler of Findlay, Ohio; grandson Phillip Bibler; father Harold Houser of Mt. Sterling; brothers Paul “Sonny” (Liz) Houser of Mt. Sterling, Pearl Houser of Chillicothe; several nieces and nephews.
Vernon was a school bus driver for Fairhaven, MCDD; graduate of Plains High School, class of 1960; member of First United Methodist Church in Mt. Sterling; church & community choir; Men’s monthly Prayer breakfast; Knights of Pythian; Talamadge Lodge #194; Masonic Lodge #269 F & AM, Mt. Sterling; Pleasant Township Trustee for 23 years; past chairman of Cemetery Board; Squad Board; volunteer of Meals on Wheels; recently nominated to Senior Citizens Hall of Fame thru Life Care Alliance; past member of Rotary; American Legion Post #417 of Mt. Sterling; known to many while owning & operating Vern’s Service Center.
Vernon was an avid Nascar fan; a fan of all sports. He loved and cared for the children at Fairhaven. Vernon will be sadly missed by his family and friends as he worked on numerous committees for his church, community, and school functions.
A Visitation will be held Thursday from 4 – 8 pm with a K of P service beginning at 8:00 pm at the PORTER-TIDD FUNERAL HOME, Mt. Sterling. Funeral service will be Friday, April 13, 2012 at 11:00 am at the First United Methodist Church 110 S. London St., Mt. Sterling, Oh. 43143. Rev. Mike Berne officiating with the interment following in Pleasant Cemetery. A military service will be performed at the gravesite by the Circleville Amvets Post #2256 in honor of the Vietnam Army veteran.
Family suggest memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church, Mt. Sterling; Fairhaven School; or Madison Plains Scholarship Foundation. Envelopes will be provided.
