Thomas Lindsey

Thomas L. Lindsey, age 77 of Mt. Sterling, went home to be with the Lord the evening of December 9th, 2023, at his farm residence. Tom was born October 16, 1946. He married the love of his life Connie Sue (Porter) December 27, 1969. Connie was always seen by his side or close by at numerous events, cattle shows and sales.

Survived by his loving wife Connie; daughter, Heather (Lindsey) Hoffman and the late Chad Hoffman; their two sons Seth Hoffman (Paige Alford), and Silas Hoffman; son, Shawn and Aimee (Cottrill) Lindsey, and their children Natalie, and Nicholas Lindsey; great-grandson, Clay Daryl Hoffman born December 19, 2022.

Preceded in death by parents, Russell and Georgianna (Hott) Lindsey; and brother, Timmy Lindsey.

Tom was a 1964 graduate of Miami Trace high School having attended most of his years at Madison Mills, received a Bachelor of Science in 1968, and a Master of Science in 1970, both in Agriculture/Animal Science from The Ohio State University. Member of The Ohio State Livestock Judging Team. Member of Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity, served as Madison Twp. Trustee for 12 years.

Tom has spent countless hours around beef cattle, not only on the home family farm, but as superintendent of the Ohio State Fair Beef Show in the show ring judging beef cattle for 50 years and in leadership positions for many county and state beef cattle organizations.

Tom was presented with a silver belt buckle commemorating the 1998 Ohio state Fair Junior Steer Show. Again in 1999 he was given the honor of judging this prestigious cattle show and giving the traditional “slap on the rump” to the champion and reserve champion.

Lindsey is a member of the Fayette County Cattle Feeders, Ohio Cattleman’s Association, and a life member of the American Angus Association.

In 2019, Tom was inducted in to the Fayette County Agricultural Hall of Fame. This honor highlights individuals who have contributed to the agricultural industry on county, state, national, and sometimes international levels.

Tom’s proudest accomplishment was his family; the loving caring and sharing.

Tom was currently engaged in farming with a commercial beef operations with his son Shawn.

Visitation will be held Friday, December 15, 2023, from 3-7 pm. at the PORTER-TIDD FUNERAL HOME, 331 W. MAIN STREET, MT. STERLING, OH, 43143. A Graveside Service in Pleasant Cemetery will follow on Saturday at 11:00am with Rev. Jim Blankenship officiating. All are welcome to attend.

In lieu of flowers family suggest memorial contributions to Nationwide Children’s hospital Foundation, P.O. Box 16810, Columbus, OH, 43216-6810. Envelopes will be provided with no postage necessary.
